Privacy Policy

This policy explains what Brovad Sands Lodge does with personal information collected through this website. It covers the website only. Information you give us in person at the lodge, by telephone or over WhatsApp is handled under the same principles but is not described here.

Who we are

Brovad Sands Lodge, Bugala Island, Ssese Islands, Kalangala District, Uganda. For anything in this policy, including a request to see or delete your information, write to info@brovadsandslodge.com.

What we collect, and why

There is one place on this site where you can give us personal information: the availability enquiry form on the contact page. Nothing else on the site asks you for anything.

When you send an enquiry we collect what you type into it:

  • Your name and email address, which are required, because we cannot reply without them
  • Your telephone or WhatsApp number, if you give one
  • Your arrival and departure dates, how many adults and children are travelling, the room type you have in mind and where you are travelling from
  • Anything you write in the message box

We use it to answer your enquiry and to arrange your stay. We do not use it for marketing, we do not add you to a mailing list, and we do not sell, rent or share it with anyone for their own purposes.

Where enquiries are kept

Each enquiry is stored in this website’s database and a copy is emailed to the lodge so that a person sees it. Both copies are kept for as long as we may reasonably need them to deal with your enquiry and any stay that follows, and to keep our own accounting records.

Cookies

This site sets no cookies for ordinary visitors. We run no advertising network, no tracking pixels and no visitor analytics. If you leave a comment, WordPress may set cookies to remember your name and email so you do not have to type them again; those are set by your own action and you can clear them in your browser at any time. Staff signing in to manage the site receive session cookies, which is unavoidable for a login to work.

Other companies involved

Two third parties can see something when you use this site, and you should know about both:

  • Our web host, which stores the site and its database, and which keeps ordinary server logs that include visitor IP addresses.
  • Google Fonts. The typefaces this site uses are served by Google. Your browser requests them directly, which means Google receives your IP address and basic browser information whenever a page loads. We do not receive anything from Google in return, and no account or profile of yours is involved.

Links out to Facebook, Instagram, TripAdvisor, WhatsApp and OpenStreetMap are ordinary links. Nothing is sent to those companies unless you click through, and once you do, their own privacy policies apply rather than this one.

Your rights

Under Uganda’s Data Protection and Privacy Act, 2019, you may ask us what personal information we hold about you, ask us to correct it if it is wrong, and ask us to delete it. Write to info@brovadsandslodge.com and we will respond. Asking us to delete an enquiry while we are still arranging your stay may mean we can no longer help with that booking, so tell us if that is what you want.

If you are contacting us from the European Union or the United Kingdom, the same requests apply to you under the GDPR, and our lawful basis for handling an enquiry is that it is necessary to take steps at your request before entering into a contract.

Children

This site is not aimed at children, and we do not knowingly collect information from them. An enquiry may name how many children are travelling; that is information about a booking, given by the adult making it, and we treat it as part of the booking.

Security

Enquiries are stored on the website’s own server and sent by email. Email is not an encrypted medium, so please do not send passport numbers, card details or anything else sensitive through the enquiry form. We will never ask you for card details by email.

Changes to this policy

If we change how we handle personal information we will update this page. The date below is when it last changed.
