Weddings

Long banquet tables in white linen and chair covers are laid beside the pool as the sun sets over the lake behind silhouetted palms.

Everybody comes, and everybody stays. Your guests cross a lake to be there, and once they have, nobody is slipping away after the speeches.

The setting

The lodge sits on the shore of Lake Victoria on Bugala Island. There is a beach, a jetty out over the water, gardens, and a function space that can be set several different ways. The lake is the backdrop for all of it, and it requires no dressing.

Late afternoon is when this site is at its best. The light comes low across the water and does most of the work a photographer would otherwise have to manufacture.

A man and a woman sit facing each other at a white-clothed table on a wooden jetty at dusk, with tall lanterns burning on the deck and the lake stretching out behind them.

What we can host

Victoria Hall takes up to 250 people at its maximum. A seated wedding reception needs more room per guest than that figure assumes, so the practical number for a wedding is lower.

The questions couples actually ask

How do our guests get here?

By ferry or boat, from one of the two mainland crossings. Settle this early. A wedding party arriving piecemeal across an afternoon changes the whole day — we can help you organise a single co-ordinated crossing instead. The routes are set out here.

What if it rains?

The event moves into the function space. Agree the wet-weather plan when you book, not on the morning.

Can guests stay?

Yes, and on an island they generally should. It also turns a wedding into a weekend, which is usually what everyone wanted anyway.

Planning

Weddings need lead time here, less because of the event itself than because of rooms and crossings. Tell us your date, roughly how many guests, and how many are staying. That is enough for us to tell you whether it works.

Afterwards, stay on. The island is a different place once the guests have gone home.

Tell us about the day

Send us the dates, the numbers and what you have in mind. We will come back to you.
