This activity now has a fuller guide: Quad Biking Tours on Bugala Island.
Bugala Island is bigger than it looks from the shoreline, and most of it is red earth track running between forest and plantation. A quad bike is the quickest way to see a part of the island that no boat will show you.
What happens
You ride out from the lodge onto the tracks that run inland. The surface is packed earth, loose in the dry and heavier after rain.
Who it suits
No experience is needed, but it is an activity with a genuine physical component. You will be gripping, steering and absorbing bumps for the length of the ride. Anyone with a back or wrist problem should say so before booking and not after.
What to bring
- Closed shoes, not sandals
- Clothes you do not mind getting dusty or muddy, depending on the season
- Sunglasses, which do more work against dust than against sun
- A change of clothes for afterwards
Best time to go
Early morning, before the heat and while the track is still firm. It also leaves the rest of the day intact, which matters if you are only here for a weekend.
The sauna at the spa is the right thing to do afterwards, whatever you thought of saunas beforehand. If you would sooner see the interior slowly, a guided forest walk covers similar ground on foot.
Booking
Tell us how many of you want to ride, and roughly which morning, and we will check the bikes against your dates.
